What Are Bacon Wrapped Avocado Wedges?
Bacon Wrapped Avocado Wedges are a delicious appetizer for summer barbeques or picnics. This recipe would also be the perfect addition to any game day party!
The combination of creamy avocado wrapped in crispy bacon is sure to be a crowd pleaser. (Especially for bacon lovers!) It's also easy to customize this dish for any party size!
This recipe is great for beginner cooks or anyone looking for something quick and easy to make. And best of all, you only need 2 ingredients, an air fryer, and some toothpicks.
Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Low carb and Keto Friendly.
- Takes less than an hour to make.
- You only need 2 ingredients.
- Great for beginner cooks.
- Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free.
- Quick and easy snack.
🍴Ingredient Notes
- Bacon - Any type of bacon will work with this recipe, but for best results choose a high-quality bacon. I love Butcher Box Bacon and Applegate Bacon because they're made without antibiotics or nitrates.
- Avocados - You'll need 3 large avocados for this recipe. For best results, use firm yet ripe avocados. If they're too soft it will be difficult to work with.
Recipe Variations
- To make an oven-baked version, follow the same instructions as if you were using an oven style air fryer. (The cooking time might vary.) I suggest broiling on high for 1-3 minutes at the end for maximum crispness.
- Add a long strip of jalapeño with the avocado for an extra kick of spice!
- Before wrapping the avocado, add salt and black pepper to both sides of all the wedges. This gives them a little more flavor.
- For a more filling side dish, cut the avocado halves in half and use a full strip of bacon on each one.
- Change up the bacon flavor for a different flavor profile!
- Use turkey bacon for a lower fat option.
Air Fryer Options
I actually have two styles of air fryers and recommend both depending on what fits best with your lifestyle.
Oven Style Air Fryer
The first type of air fryer I have is what is shown in this post - the Ninja Foodi Air Fryer Oven. This appliance is bigger and sits on my kitchen counter.
It looks more like a mini oven than an air fryer! You can use a baking tray or the metal basket. (It comes with both.)
This oven can air fry, toast, bake, or dehydrate and flips up to save on counter space when it's not in use. For this recipe I used the baking tray lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
Basket Style Air Fryer
The second type of air fryer I have is a basket style air fryer. This air fryer is portable and can be stored in a pantry or cabinet. Both styles can be used with this recipe!
🍴Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Cut Avocados
Start by cutting the avocados in half. Carefully peel off the skin and cut each half into 3-4 wedges. Try to make equally-sized wedges so they cook evenly.
Step 2: Prepare Bacon
Next, remove the bacon from the package and cut the bacon slices in half the short way.
Step 3: Wrap Avocado Wedges
Tightly wrap each avocado wedge with a piece of bacon and secure with one or two toothpicks.
Step 4: Air Fry
Place in your air fryer basket or on a parchment paper lined baking tray. The size of the air fryer basket will vary so you might have to cook them in two batches.
Air fry at 375 degrees for about 18 minutes. Flip halfway so they get crispy on both sides!
Expert Tips
- Place the bacon wrapped avocado wedges in a single layer on the baking sheet or in the air fryer basket. This will ensure all sides get crispy!
- Use two toothpicks to make sure the bacon stays in place.
- Wrap the bacon very tightly around the avocado to make sure it covers most of the avocado wedge.
- Serve right out of the oven for best results! They are not quite as tasty at room temperature.
- Place the crispy bacon wrapped avocado on a paper towel lined plate before serving to absorb some of the excess grease.
- Bake or air fry until the bacon is golden brown.
