🍴Ingredient Notes
- Chicken Drumsticks - I haven't tested this recipe with regular wings, but I'm assuming it would work! For chicken, my two favorite brands are Butcher Box, and Bell + Evans because they're high quality. (Organic, free range, and humanely raised.)
- Lemon, Juiced - Feel free to use more than half of a lemon! I personally love a strong lemon flavor on my chicken.
- Fresh Thyme - Sub with ½ teaspoon dried thyme.
- Olive Oil - I use a little oil on the chicken so they get super crispy! It also helps the seasoning to stick to the chicken.
🍴Step by Step Instructions
Step 1:
Add chicken to a medium sized mixing bowl with lemon juice, olive oil, thyme, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss the chicken around until it's evenly coated.
Step 2:
Place the chicken into your air fryer or on a baking sheet. Air fry or bake the chicken for about 20-25 minutes at 375 degrees. (The outside should be golden brown.) Carefully remove from the oven and serve hot!
Helpful Tips
- For this recipe I love using an air fryer because it doesn't take long to cook and the outside is always super crispy! If you're new to air frying, I have been using the Ninja Kitchen Foodi Digital Air Fry Oven for about 3 years. It's one of my favorite kitchen appliances - I use it almost everyday! Not only does it air fry, but it also bakes, toasts, and dehydrates. Plus it's shaped more like an oven vs. the traditional upright air fryers so you can use a baking sheet!
- After you add the chicken to your air fryer, drizzle over whatever is left at the bottom of the bowl! (Don't miss out on the extra lemon juice and seasoning!)
- If you bake the chicken, it will take about 10-15 minutes longer than the air fryer.
- When removing the chicken from the air fryer, use tongs or a fork.
Frequently Asked Questions
You do not need an air fryer for this recipe, but I highly recommend it! An air fryer is great for cooking faster, keeping the meat juicy and tender while crisping the outside with minimal oil! If you don't have an air fryer you can certainly try baking them in the oven, but note that it might take a bit longer to get the edges crispy in the oven!
These wings are great on their own, but I always like to serve vegetables with my meals! Which usually includes air fried, roasted, or steamed vegetables.
I'm usually in a rush so I rarely take the time to marinate my chicken. If you like planning ahead you can certainly marinate the chicken for a few hours or even overnight!

How to store leftovers
If you have leftovers, they can easily be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
I have not tried freezing the wings, but I imagine they would freeze great!
To re-heat you can microwave them, bake them for a few minutes, or pop them back in the air fryer for about 5 minutes! (My personal favorite option.)
