Why I love this recipe!
Easy - This might be one of the easiest no-bake dessert recipes! Just blend all ingredients in a high speed blender until the consistency is smooth and creamy.
Delicious - This decadent treat is light, creamy, and not too sweet! It's the perfect dessert to enjoy when a chocolate craving strikes!
Allergy Friendly - This recipe is dairy-free, gluten-free, egg-free, and nut-free. It's also Paleo & Vegan friendly!
Plus, it's lower in sugar and can be made completely sugar-free with a sweetener substitute like monkfruit.
🍴Ingredient Notes
- Full Fat Coconut Milk - Do not use regular coconut milk or non-dairy milk. Full fat coconut milk helps to create the thick, creamy texture.
- Avocado - Any medium sized ripe avocado will work with this recipe.
- Cacao Powder - You can also use unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Coconut Sugar - Any granulated sugar will work! You can also sub with Lakanto monkfruit for a sugar-free option.
- Vanilla Extract - I love adding vanilla into all of my chocolate recipes! It helps to balance out the flavors.
- Salt - You just need a pinch!
Expert Tips
- Make sure the avocado is ripe. You can tell by giving the avocado a gentle squeeze - if it's slightly squishy you know it's ready.
- Use a silicone or rubber spatula to scrape out the mousse from the blender. It's very thick and will not pour easily.
- Stop the blender and scrape down the edges to ensure all ingredients are fully blended into the mousse. (You don't want sneaky chunks of avocado!)
- Chill the mousse for at least 4 hours so it has time to thicken up.
Frequently Asked Questions
I would not recommend it. This dessert is best made in a high speed blender or food processor.
Yes! You do not need to use just the thick part at the top. Dump the entire can into the blender with the rest of the ingredients. (No food waste!)
I have not tested this recipe with a liquid sweetener. It might make the consistency too thin. Plus, maple syrup and honey are much sweeter than coconut sugar. It would not be a 1-1 swap.
Serving Suggestions
I prefer adding the chocolate mousse into small individual serving cups. You can use ceramic ramekins, fancy martini glasses, mini mason jars, or any small glass jars.
Top the mousse with powdered sugar, fresh strawberry slices, fresh raspberries, or shaved dark chocolate.
I also use this recipe to make my Chocolate Trifle Cups which are layered with chocolate cake or brownies, chocolate mousse, coconut whipped cream, and fresh fruit!
You can also use this recipe with my Raspberry Trifle Cups!
How to store leftovers
Leftovers should be stored in the refrigerator in airtight containers. (You can also top the dishes with plastic wrap or a reusable wrap.) They will last about 5 days.
