Halloween Dirt Cups are so much fun and perfect for your next Halloween Party! This chocolate treat is easy to make and can be customized to your dietary needs.
What are Halloween Dirt Cups?
Halloween Dirt Cups are typically made with some sort of instant pudding mix or chocolate mousse and layered with Oreo cookie crumbs for the "dirt." They're topped with gummy worms, pumpkin candies, or cookie tombstones.
This dessert is served in individual cups which makes them great for Halloween Parties or Birthday Parties! You can use small glass cups or clear plastic cups so you can see the layers. (For kids I recommend plastic cups.)
What Makes this Recipe Healthier?
Unlike most Halloween Dirt Pudding Cups, this recipe is made with homemade chocolate pudding and brownies.
The chocolate pudding comes together quickly in a blender, and it gets the thick, creamy consistency from avocado and full-fat coconut milk. Both are great sources of healthy fats!
The brownies are made with almond flour, pumpkin puree, and are sweetened with coconut sugar!
Instead of using gummy worms made with artificial colors, I used Smart Sweets Gummy Worms that are lower in sugar and naturally dyed with fruits and veggies.
🍴Ingredient Notes
- Brownies - Any brownie recipe will work! I used my Almond Flour Brownie Recipe, but you could also use my Sweet Potato Brownie Recipe or my Zucchini Brownie Recipe.
- Chocolate Pudding - Any chocolate mousse or chocolate pudding will work. I used my Vegan Chocolate Mousse Recipe because it's made with simple and healthy ingredients like cacao powder, avocado, and full-fat coconut milk.
- Gummy Worms - I used Smart Sweets Gummy Worms that are naturally dyed and lower in sugar., but any brand of gummy worms will work.
Recipe Variations
- Swap the brownies for Chocolate Cake. (I have a delicious Almond Flour Chocolate Cake Recipe!)
- Use gluten-free chocolate cookie crumbs on top instead of brownie crumbs for a more "dirt-like" look.
- Top with broken pieces of your favorite peanut butter or almond butter chocolate cups! I love the Evolved Chocolate Dairy-Free Almond Butter Cups.
- Pour melted white chocolate into small silicone ghost molds. Top the dirt cups with chocolate ghosts to give a spookier look!
- To save time, use box brownie mix, box cake mix, or pre-made chocolate cookies.
🍴Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Brownies
Start by adding a brownie into each clear glass cup or jar. You can press it in or break it into smaller pieces.
Step 2: Chocolate Mousse
Next, add a large scoop of homemade chocolate pudding into each jar on top of the brownie.
Step 3: Add "Dirt" and Gummy Worms
Then add in broken up brownie pieces and brownie crumbs to create the dirt layer on top of the chocolate pudding. Finish off with pressing in 3-4 gummy worms per cup.
Expert Tips
- If you add chocolate cookie crumbs on top, use a food processor to create fine crumbs or add them into a plastic bag and use a rolling pin and break into crumbs.
- Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting & layering.
- Feel free to get creative when making the layers! Try adding chocolate mousse to the bottom of the cup instead of the brownies. Top with a layer of brownie pieces, more chocolate mousse, and cookie crumbs.
- Make the brownies and chocolate mousse or chocolate pudding the day before to save time!
- Gummy worms can get very tough when chilled in the refrigerator, so I recommend leaving them off of the cups until you're ready to serve.
