What is Nice Cream?
Nice cream is a creamy frozen treat that has the consistency of soft serve ice cream.
The base of all nice cream recipes is frozen bananas. You can easily change up the flavor by adding in different fruit or flavor combinations! If you love chocolate, check out my Chocolate Nice Cream Recipe!
Banana ice cream is much healthier than traditional ice cream because it's naturally sweetened with fruit and there are no artificial colors or additives.
Plus, it's a great way to use up ripe bananas!
🍴Ingredient Notes
- Frozen Blueberries - They must be frozen in order to give the ice cream a thicker consistency. You can also use wild blueberries or mixed berries!
- Frozen Banana Slices - The riper the bananas are, the sweeter the ice cream will be. If you don't want a lot of banana flavor, don't use super ripe bananas. For more information and how I prepare frozen bananas check out my post on How to Freeze Bananas!
- Unsweetened Dairy-Free Milk - You can use any dairy-free milk like almond milk, cashew milk, or coconut milk!
🍴Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Add Ingredients Into Blender
Start by adding frozen blueberries, coconut milk, and frozen banana slices into the blender.
Step 2: Blend Nice Cream
Blend on a low speed. Stir every few seconds until it starts blending smoothly. It takes a few minutes to get it going!
Step 3: Fold in Chocolate
Once it's smooth and creamy, fold in chocolate chips. Add to 3 small glass bowls and store in the freezer until you're ready to enjoy!
Expert Tips
- Leave the frozen bananas out on the counter for a few minutes before adding it into the blender! This makes it easier to blend.
- For an extra burst of blueberry flavor, add ¼ cup of frozen blueberries into the creamy nice cream mixture and pulse until lightly blended.
- If the mixture is looking too soft, just throw in a few extra frozen bananas. It should thicken it right up!
- To create a thicker ice cream consistency, try blending with as little dairy-free milk as possible.
- If you don't have a high-speed blender, you can use a food processor to blend the ice cream mixture.
- If you have leftover frozen sliced bananas, save them for smoothies or another nice cream recipe!
Helpful Kitchen Tools
- Vitamix - I recommend the Vitamix if you're planning to make a lot of Nice Cream! It comes with a Tamper which makes it easier to blend, and it comes out perfect every time. I've had mine for over 5 years, and it still works great!
- Food Processor - If you don't have a high-speed blender, you can also use a food processor for this recipe. It will take a little longer, but I promise it will work!

Serving & Storing
The ice cream will have a creamy texture like soft serve right out of the blender. You can enjoy right away by serving in two small cups or place in the freezer for 15-60 minutes to firm up.
You can also use an ice cream scooper for serving in ice cream cones!
I have left nice cream overnight in the freezer and the texture is still pretty good the next day!
The ice cream will need to defrost on the counter for about 15-20 minutes. You can even microwave it for about 10-15 seconds to soften it up.
