Why you'll love this recipe!
- They're a delicious and fun recipe for kids or adults.
- They only take about 20 minutes to prepare.
- You can make individual servings in ramekins or bake in a casserole dish.
- It's a great low carb dinner option.
- This dish is gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, and keto friendly.
- They're easy to make.
- You can easily customize them with your favorite pizza toppings.
🍴Ingredient Notes
- Ground Beef - You can also swap the beef for ground turkey, ground chicken, or Italian sausage.
- Tomato Sauce - I used Primal Kitchen Tomato Basil sauce because it's sugar free, but any tomato sauce will work with this recipe! (Homemade or store bought.)
- Vegetables - You'll need Chopped Green Peppers, Diced Sweet Onion, Chopped Mushrooms, and Garlic. Feel free to add any of your other favorite pizza toppings!
- Olive Oil - I use a little olive oil to sauté the onions in this recipe. You can also use avocado oil or coconut oil.
- Seasoning - Since the sauce is already seasoned, I just used a little salt and Italian seasoning to give the ground beef some flavor!
- Dairy Free Cheese - This dish pairs well with shredded or fresh mozzarella on top! I used Miyoko's Vegan Mozzarella. If you don't have cheese, you can skip this ingredient.
- Freshly Chopped Basil - I love using fresh herbs, but it's totally optional! Adding chopped basil to each bowl adds extra flavor and works as a great garnish for serving.
🍴Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Preparing Ground Beef
Start by sauteing chopped onions and chopped garlic cloves on medium heat with olive oil. After a few minutes add in ground beef, salt, and Italian seasoning. Break up the meat into small crumbles using a wooden spoon.
Step 2: Adding in Vegetables
After the beef is about halfway cooked through, add in the green peppers and mushrooms. (And any other vegetables you'd like to add!) Stir around for a few minutes.
Step 3: Baking with Sauce
Next, pour sauce into the pan and stir around. Pour the mixture into one large casserole dish or individual ramekins. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
If you'd like to add cheese, top before baking! I find that dairy-free cheese takes longer to melt. If you're using regular cheese or shredded cheese, add it to the top for the last 10 minutes.
Serve hot as is or with your favorite gluten-free pasta!
Expert Tips
- Get creative with the toppings! Feel free to customize this dish with your favorite vegetables and meat.
- Make sure the ground beef is cooked through before baking.
- Add cheese on top for the last 10 minutes of baking so it's gooey and golden-brown!
- If you use smaller individual ramekins, they will need about half the baking time.
How to store leftovers
Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 4-5 days. If you used ramekins, cover with plastic wrap.
