Why You'll Love This Recipe
If you're looking for a healthier alternative for pizza night, this Broccoli Crust Pizza is flavorful and delicious!
The base of this healthy pizza crust is made with broccoli rice, eggs, avocado oil, and coconut flour. You can purchase premade broccoli rice to save time or make it yourself in the food processor!
It's a great option for those with dietary restrictions because it's naturally gluten-free, dairy-free, Paleo, and Whole30 friendly. It's also a lighter low carb option compared to traditional pizza crust!
And most importantly, this vegetable pizza crust is sturdy enough to hold all of your favorite pizza toppings and comes together quickly and easily.
Plus, it's toddler approved and a great way to sneak in extra veggies!
🍴Ingredient Notes
- Broccoli Rice - Broccoli rice is made by pulsing broccoli florets in a food processor. See below for more information!
- Eggs - I would not swap for an egg replacement. The eggs help to bind the crust together.
- Coconut Flour - I would not recommend swapping for any other flour.
- Avocado Oil - You can also use extra virgin olive oil.
- Fresh Basil - I find this recipe is best with fresh basil, but you can try using ¼ teaspoon of dried basil or Italian Seasoning.
- Garlic Powder - For a bold garlic flavor, use 1-2 cloves of finely minced garlic.
🍴Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Preparing the Pizza
Start by adding broccoli rice, eggs, coconut flour, avocado oil, basil, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder into a mixing bowl. Stir together until a thick dough forms.
Step 2: Baking the Pizza
Next, pour the broccoli pizza dough into the center of a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
With a silicone spatula, press the dough into a circle. Bake at 350 degrees for about 25-30 minutes. (The edges should be golden brown.)
Step 3: Add Pizza Toppings
Remove the pizza crust from the oven and add your toppings! Place the pizza back in the oven for 10-15 minutes.
Step 4: Cut & Serve Pizza
Once the pizza is fully cooked, remove it from the oven. Use a pizza cutter or large knife to slice into small pieces.
How to Make Broccoli Rice
You can purchase pre-packaged broccoli from the grocery store, but it’s a lot less expensive to make it yourself!
Start by chopping the head of broccoli in half and then cut one half into similarly sized pieces.
Add about two cups of chopped broccoli into a food processor. Pulse on and off until it becomes a “rice” consistency. Repeat until you have enough for the recipe!
Helpful Tips
- Line your baking sheet with parchment paper! This will prevent the crust from sticking.
- Bake the crust for at least 25 minutes before adding any toppings. (Especially sauce!) You want the crust to be firm before adding any toppings that would make it soggy.
- Use a pizza cutter! It works great for making perfect pizza slices.
- Make sure the crust isn't too thick in the center because it will rise slightly in the oven. Press down with wet hands or a silicone spatula.
Pizza Topping Ideas
What I love about this vegetable pizza crust is that it's very flavorful on its own so it doesn't need much on top.
I've enjoyed it many times with just a sprinkle of Pecorino Ramano which is made from sheep's milk. (I'm dairy-free, but able to digest goat cheese & sheep cheese.)
For a protein boost, try adding cooked chicken breast, sliced meatballs, or thinly sliced steak.
To make a Margarita style pizza, just add your favorite dairy-free mozzarella, fresh basil, and tomato slices.
And you can't go wrong with a classic red sauce or white sauce and cheese!
How to Store Leftovers
Leftovers will store well in the refrigerator for 3-4 days!
I stack the slices in a large glass Tupperware container, you can use parchment paper to keep them from touching. You can also wrap them in tin foil or a reusable wrap.
To re-heat, I recommend baking the pizza slices for a few minutes in your oven, toaster oven, or air fryer.
