🍴Ingredient Notes
- Apple Slices - I used Honeycrisp, but any baking apple will work for this recipe. You can leave the skin on like I did, or peel them before slicing. (I like keeping the peel on because it adds more fiber!)
- Water - The water gives the apples a little extra moisture while they're baking.
- Tapioca Flour - You can also use arrowroot starch.
- Cinnamon - I use Ceylon Cinnamon.
- Salt - Adding a little salt helps to balance out the flavors!
🍴Step by Step Instructions
- Start by rinsing all the apples. Cut them into thin slices, and measure out 8 cups.
- Add the apples into a large mixing bowl along with the water, cinnamon, tapioca flour, and salt. Stir until they're evenly coated.
- Next, pour the apple slices into a medium sized casserole dish. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven to stir, and place back in the oven for 5-10 minutes. (They should still be firm.)
- Remove from the oven, and serve hot with your favorite dairy-free ice cream or coconut whipped cream!
Baking Tips
- Add ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg for a little extra kick of flavor!
- Do not over bake the apples or they will become mushy.
- Serve with your favorite dairy-free ice cream or coconut whipped cream! I also like sprinkling on toasted pecans or walnuts.
- Make sure you stir the apples after about 20-25 minutes of baking.
Frequently Asked Questions
Firm, crispy apples work best. I used Honeycrisp, but you could also try Granny Smith, McIntosh, Gala, or Fuji.
I don't add sugar to this recipe because in my opinion apples have plenty of natural sweetness, but if you like them a little sweeter you can stir in ¼ cup of coconut sugar!
How to store leftovers
Leftover apples can be stored in an air tight container in the refrigerator. Serve chilled or warm them up in the oven or microwave for a few minutes.
