Why You'll Love This Recipe
Making homemade almond milk can require a few extra steps if you're making it from whole almonds, but this 2-minute almond milk recipe is perfect for when you need milk in a pinch!
What I love about this recipe is that you only need THREE simple ingredients - almond butter, filtered water, and vanilla extract.
You can also easily add some natural sweetness by using medjool dates, honey, or maple syrup!
Is DIY Almond Milk Healthier?
There are a few store-bought dairy-free milk brands that I use and trust, but the majority of products on the market are made with a long list of ingredients.
They usually include added sugar, added oils, sunflower lecithin, guar gum, or other thickeners, stabilizers, and preservatives.
Compared to store-bought almond milk, this homemade recipe is much healthier and cost effective.
🍴Ingredient Notes
- Filtered Water - I recommend using filtered water for best results. My favorite water filter is the Aquasana under counter water filter system.
- Almond Butter - You'll need a high-quality almond butter for this recipe. I recommend an almond butter that does not have added sugar. My favorite store-bought almond butter is Woodstock!
- Vanilla Extract - This is what will give the almond butter a little touch of sweetness and flavor without needing any sugar. I recommend using a high quality vanilla extract for best results.
How to Add Natural Sweetness
If you're looking to add natural sweetness to this homemade almond milk, I suggest using 1-2 medjool dates. (Make sure you remove the pit.)
For best results, use a high speed blender or soak the dates in hot water for about 10 minutes before adding to the blender.
You could also use 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup.
Can I Use a Different Nut Butter?
I have not tested this recipe with different nut butters, but I imagine it would work similarly! Next time I would love to try using cashew butter to make a homemade cashew milk!
For a nut-free option, try using Sunflower Seed Butter.
🍴Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Add Ingredients into Blender
Add all ingredients into a high-speed blender. Blend on high for about 60 seconds.
Step 2: Blend & Store
Pour into a mason jar or glass jar with a lid. Refrigerate until you're ready to enjoy!
Expert Tips
- I recommend using a high-speed blender for this recipe. I used my Vitamix A3300 Ascent Series Blender which is by far my favorite!
- To achieve creamy results, use a smooth almond butter like the one from Woodstock or Artisana Organics. (I also pick organic when possible.)
- After the milk has been sitting for a while, you'll need to give the jar a good shake before using.
Favorite Ways to Use Homemade Almond Milk
There are a variety of ways to use homemade almond milk! Some of my favorite ways to use it are in my morning coffee, with a bowl of cereal, or in baked goods that call for milk.
The great thing about this recipe is that you can easily create a dairy free milk in minutes just by using a few simple ingredients.
How to store leftovers
Leftover almond milk should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. I recommend storing in a large glass mason jar!
Because this is fresh almond milk, it does not contain added ingredients to keep it fresh for long periods of time. This homemade milk has a shorter shelf life.
To prevent waste, just pour leftovers into ice cube trays and freeze for smoothies!
