🍴Ingredient Notes
- Ground Beef - It's important to choose quality meat. I buy most of my meat from Butcher Box because it's high quality, and it gets sent right to my door! When choosing meat, check to make sure there are no added hormones, and that the cows were grass fed AND grass finished. A lot of brands market their meat saying "grass fed" but that can mean they ate grass ONCE in their life! I haven't tested this recipe with ground turkey or chicken, but I'm sure it would work!
- Egg - Typically burgers don't have eggs, but I find that the onions stick together better when I add an egg. If you have an egg allergy, feel free to skip it!
- Paprika & Cayenne Pepper - This is what gives these burgers a spicy kick! It's just enough to add flavor, but it's still a very mild spice. Feel free to add more if you want them extra spicy!
- Sweet Onion, Diced - It works best if you dice the onion into very tiny pieces or else they have a hard time staying in the burgers.
🍴Step by Step Instructions
- Start by adding ground beef, spices, egg, and onion into a bowl. I prefer using a hand mixer to blend because my hands don't get dirty, but you could also use a large spoon! (Or your hands!) Blend until fully combined - it's important not to over mix.
- Next, turn your burner to medium/high heat. Let the non-stick pan pre-heat while you make the burger patties.
- Roll the burger mixture into four large balls, then gently flatten them out to the thickness you want. It should make about 4-5 patties depending on how big you want them.
- Add one burger at a time to your pre-heated pan. Let them cook for about 3-5 minutes on each side. (5 minutes on each side will make a medium/well done burger.)
- Serve with roasted veggies, on a bed of lettuce, or with your favorite gluten-free bun!
Helpful Tips
- My favorite pan to cook these burgers is a non-toxic, non-stick pan by the brand Rad USA. I use their 12 inch pan! It's honestly THE BEST pan I have ever used - nothing sticks to it!! You can shop through my Amazon store.
- I recently discovered a life changing tip for mixing ground beef.. use a stand mixer or hand mixer. Add all of your ingredients into the mixing bowl, turn the mixer on a medium speed, and blend until it's fully combined! It's important not to over mix or else the burgers will be tough.
- When the burgers are cooking, try not to touch them! Place them directly on the heated pan, set the timer, flip, and set the timer again. You should only touch them when you flip them over!
- Don't cut open the burgers when they're done cooking. If you open them up, you'll release all the juices! (No one wants a dry burger!)
Serving Options
- On your favorite bun - I have a homemade gluten-free burger bun recipe!
- Over a bed of lettuce or between two pieces of lettuce.
- In between two "sweet potato buns" - Just roast thick slices of sweet potato.
- With a side of roasted or steamed vegetables
- On top of a salad
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes of course! I prefer the stovetop because it's quick and easy, but you can make them the traditional way on the grill too!
I love the Primal Kitchen Ketchup - it has an amazing flavor! Even if you're not doing Whole30, I prefer using no added sugar ketchup.
How to store leftovers
You can store leftover burgers in an air tight container. (I prefer glass containers.) They will stay fresh for about 4-5 days in the refrigerator.
